Official Policy Regarding Participant-Organized Events

Recently, certain types of participant-organized events in Entropia Universe have become increasingly popular that include a raffle, sweepstakes or other randomized or chance-based component.

Because the marketing of such “raffle” and “sweepstakes” events has become more aggressive over time, and the events have an increasing emphasis on random selection of prize winners, it has become necessary for MindArk to announce and enforce a detailed policy for such events and activities.

Section 8.14 of the Entropia Universe End User Licence Agreement states:

Gambling activities are expressly forbidden in the Entropia Universe.

In accordance with that section of the EULA, the following policy will be in effect and enforced starting on May 1, 2020:

All participant-organized events or activities that include any sort of randomized winner selection and/or prize distribution process or component are prohibited in Entropia Universe.

This policy is important to ensure that MindArk and Entropia Universe remain in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.

If you are uncertain whether an event or activity this policy, please open a support case with a detailed description of your proposed event or activity, and the support team will provide guidance. For previously-existing ongoing events that may be in violation of this policy, please contact support for assistance.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

- GUESS THE 12 HR GLOBALS/HOFS TOTAL AND WIN 100 PED
- get a solo hunting or mining global/hof with the numbers 317 in the total

I've had a discussion with Ant, and due to the new MA policy, we will no longer include the following in our events:
  • random global/hof prizes
  • guess the 12, 24 or 48 hour globals/hofs to win a ped prize
  • apartments that require a specific number in a global/hof in order to win them
  • Sith Meister's bonus prize of a D-Class Amp because it requires a specific global/hof number (169)
As a side-note, we are very low on available apartments, and I'm not sure we can give what's left away in any other manner that wouldn't violate the new policy, so this too will probably not be available for events.

However, there have been times in the past where we have given away an apartment to someone who has made continuous and beneficial contributions to the Monria community, and this is something I will discuss with Ant to see if that is still possible, but as mentioned above, we only have a few apartments left.

It is always our hope that participants engage in our events in the spirit in which they are meant, and we are appreciative of those who share time with us and partake in the craziness that can often turn into chaotic fun.

Remember one thing ... on Monria, always "Expect the Unexpected" ... that will never change. :D

I've only just seen this announcement and I was a bit OMG! I assume you can still give away prizes for HSL or most globals or similar? I hope the Monria events can still continue, as they are the best fun.

No worries Heidi, we will have our regular mid-month and other events, we just won't have the components mentioned above due to the new MA policy.

I did an edit on my earlier post because I had to add that we also won't be including Sith's bonus prize of a D-Class Amp because it requires a specific global/hof number (169).

fyi - Planet Partners are exempt from this rule. Cyrene recently did a booth raffle event. Over on planetcalypsoforum someone posted Mindark's reply:

In theory this opens up potential for full scale casinos if they are run by a planet partner.

Thank you for the information, we've already seen it, but that support case response does not give any specifics about the statement that the person who submitted the support case was referring to, so it's ambiguous at best.

That aside, we won't be running any events that aren't in compliance with MA's policy We will adhere to best practices to avoid any issues with events, and will continue with our Monria mid-month and Toulan monthly events.

Also, the fact that we are a Planet Partner won't change our adherence to MA's policy.

interesting development - Does this mean that finding Toulan pages are still available since it is part of the loot/mining/crafting table?

Why was Cyrene's recent event with the shopping booths excluded from this? The mechanics of the event was detailed as the exact specifications noted by MA as what was not allowed due to the risk of lawsuit. (" This policy is important to ensure that MindArk and Entropia Universe remain in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. ")
It was the players making these events that led to this issue arising and MA making an announcement that they wanted to make sure they and the Entropia Universe game remained in Compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. Then MA gives a Planet Partner permission to do it in the exact detailing of what was recognized as "strictly forbidden"

I don't want to be Crude about bringing it up, but I am just lost on how the exact reference of what was not allowed was wound up being permitted and used.

Hey Dewey ... I appreciate your interest in this, but it has to do with Cyrene, so it would be more appropriate to present your opinions at their forum rather than ours.

I made clear what our position is regarding MA's policy, and we won't deviate from that, so there's really nothing to discuss here. Also, it would be inappropriate to discuss another Planet Partner at our forum. That's part of our policy out of respect for them

There's already a discussion going on at the Caly forum, so if need be, people can continue to post their opinions there. After all, that is the forum MA watches and responds on and probably the best medium to get their attention regarding this topic, outside of submitting a support case with your concerns.

Therefore, I am asking that no further discussion occur regarding Cyrene and MA as it relates to MA's policy ... sorry Dewey, I know you mean well, but right now, this is a hot topic and things like this have a tendency to derail, which is something we prefer not entertaining at our forum.

I would also ask that no one else comment on the Cyrene/MA situation.

Thank You

Closing this thread as our position is known regarding this policy and no further discussion needs to take place, because it has the potential to derail and that is not what we want at our forum.

FireFist can let us know if he receives a response from MA Support about his event in his event thread.
