Yes you are right I just tried it with other pets, I guess I never noticed

It dosen't give a reload buff it's an increase in extraction speed when drilling claims. Pet buffs don't actually show on the buff bar afaik. But you can tell it's working when you are drilling if you dismiss the pet part way through a claim and you can tell it has slowed down.
